When we are closed indoors, I hope that we can connect ourselves with the outside world through the luggage, and get a better sense of the changes in the outside world.

Online Feedback

In order to better understand people's attitudes towards travel, I have collected information on the internet about people’s views about not being able to travel and how to cherish the memory of the outside world, then I have summarised and analysed it.

Related Data Analysis

Regarding the current state of the market on this topic, I have collected data on developments in the tourism industry, the ways that the market responds to, and people are trying to find many other ways to connect with the outside world.

There are four main ways people currently use to try and nostalgic travel, namely watching vlogs and plogs taken by travel bloggers, AR and VR virtual tours and games, listening to travel stories from friends, looking through the souvenirs, and I have analysed these in comparison.

Through the current situation above, I have concluded that the travel market has almost collapsed in recent years and people are eager to travel; the travel and gaming market are trying to change and find different ways of experiencing the world, bringing people a variety of different travel experiences, but it has never been able to give people a realistic connection and experience with the world, and to feel the changes in the outside world.

Related Method Analysis

I conducted user research, using interviews, in order to understand some of people's perceptions and impressions of tourism. I mainly asked questions about whether they wanted to travel, what travel meant to them, ways to commemorate travel, objects and places that could represent travel.

Finding

I chose young, middle-aged and older people as my target users, most of whom have the time and energy to travel. I also developed a user persona to represent my user group.

Target User Analysis Persona

Based on the problems with the existing approach, I was given a design that needed to reflect a sense of experience, authenticity, participation, entertainment, richness and ease of use throughout the tour, as well as a strong sense of documentation and reminiscence during and after the tour.

I want to use AR to present this travel system in three dimensions, which is more visually realistic and has a stronger sense of experience

When you open the suitcase, a globe appears, which has the same seasons, weather and time as the real globe, tap on the globe to jump to different places, zoom in to see details constantly, choose the location you want, the suitcase and the surrounding area will appear the landscape and architecture of the location, local people and clothing, you can interact with each item, after the journey the system will generate your own souvenir ticket and souvenir according to your record and mood of the whole process of the trip, scan the QR code to make a customized physical souvenir.

Design Concept

Through the analysis the flow of the tour, I found that the key breakthrough areas were Preparation, Attractions and Souvenirs, which are important factors affecting the tour experience, so I focused on planning the program in this area.

Proposal

My AR interface contains four main sections, Personal Center, Calendar, Start your journey, My bag, Calendar as the biggest mix, which makes it easier for people to see their journey anytime, anywhere, followed by scanning and opening the travel box, which allows users to interact with the landscape, architecture, locals, as well as clothing, food shops, gift shops, send letters to friends at the post office, etc. Then there is my bag which contains all the memories of your travels and the things you wish to share with others.

From what people have said above, I conclude that nostalgia for the old days of travel, as well as dissatisfaction and distress with the current situation, if there is no way to get out of the house for a long period of time, people may have the following emotions.

But when we have no way to travel, maybe during the epidemic, or when our personal time, energy and money can't support us to travel to many places. We get to know the outside world through the internet or by chatting with others. Meanwhile, the luggage is gradually gathering dust in the corner of the room and losing its value.

When we are closed indoors, we get to know the outside world through the internet, luggage full of memories covered in dust. In this project, I used the suitcase as an emotional vehicle to phenotype the scenery while travelling in the form of AR, thus connecting myself to the outside world as much as possible and feeling better about the changes.
